Workshop Title: Heavy Flags: Reimagining Symbols of Queer Resistance
Join artist and educator Alise Anderson for an empowering, hands-on workshop that explores identity, resistance, and reclamation through the creation of three-dimensional pride flags. In response to H.B. 77—Utah has become the first state to ban the pride flag in government buildings, including schools—This bill is especially harmful to queer youth today. The pride flag represents a signal to our queer community that you are safe here and you belong. How can we reimagine a pride flag? How can we give it permanence? What does adding physical weight do to a flag? This workshop is both a creative act and a call to thoughtful community reflection. Together, participants will question the erasure of queer visibility by making flags. These soft sculptures, wrapped in fabric, become powerful declarations of belonging and strength.
